Salim Habib University is committed to transform society through quality education, learning, and research at the high quality. As a Dean, Faculty of Science, I welcome you to the University.

The Faculty of Science is a dynamic Faculty where new knowledge, leading scientists, and technologist are developed through innovation. The Faculty creates, applies, and disseminates new knowledge for the advancement in different fields of science.

Department of Biosciences has highly qualified faculty with diversified expertise and experience who facilitates your development by providing deep insights into the discipline of Bioscience. Biosciences graduates have a great future. There is a huge need of qualified and skilled Bio-scientist world-wide to resolve health and health related issues, for examples food security and food related problems, fighting diseases, developing vaccines, medicine, diagnostic tests and searching for strategies to delay ageing and death.

SHU provides friendly environment to develop meaningful skills in scholars such as reading and critical ability, independent thinkers, consideration and maintaining ethical standards, use variety of methods for investigation and analysis. Upon completion of the program, students will have the capacity to build a career as a basic science faculty or researcher for a variety of fields including allied health, diagnostic or research laboratories with respect to bioinformatics, genetics, veterinary medicine and biotechnology.

The Department of Biosciences was established in 2016. The faculty of Biosciences brought with them years of teaching and research experience, who worked hard to develop curricula and laboratories. It is the only department at SHU with a large number of Ph.D. holders. from well renowned local and foreign universities. The laboratories are well equipped and sufficient in providing hands-on training and developing skills in their students. Biosciences labs cater to train students in basic and advanced techniques in biology and computer sciences to stay ahead in academia, research, and the industry market. There are several hundred quality books for Bioscience students in The Tariq Amin Library. The environment of Biosciences is conducive to motivate and inspire Faculty and students to achieve academic excellence.

Vision

The Department of Biological Sciences will be a leader in acquiring fundamental knowledge of the living world that will advance the health of the planet, including humans. We fully integrate instruction and research so that all students not only learn but also, through their learning, actively contribute to our understanding of life.

Mission

The mission of our department is to produce skilled graduates with comprehensive knowledge in life sciences through experiential learning and problem-solving abilities. We aim to foster an exciting learning environment, which provides intellectual development and stimulates students to serve as leaders.

The Department of Biosciences embraces the full breadth of modern, vibrant and internationally leading Biosciences programs. The MPhil program covers all aspects of the field, that strongly supports multidisciplinary integration and empowering students with flexibility to tailor their education to their skills and interests.
